2023 Memorial Day Weekend Ceremony - Sunday May 28th 4pm
Please join us in expressing appreciation for those who sacrificed their all for this nation and remembering them by name.
The guest speaker will be Colonel Willard A. Buhl USMC (Ret.). He is a beloved veteran Marine officer who enlisted in1981, earned the rank of a reconnaissance sergeant and before being commissioned as an officer in 1986. He has served in combat and staff roles in various regions and operations. In Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm, UN operations in Mogadishu, Somalia and Operation Iraqi Freedom. he led platoons, companies and battalions in infantry and intelligence missions. One of his most notable assignments was as the commanding officer of the 3rd Battalion, 1st Marines which fought in the Second Battle of Fallujah in 2004, where he earned two Bronze Stars with "V" and his battalion earned more than 250 awards for valor during their deployment. He also worked as a senior military assistant, a military fellow and a wounded warrior commander. He has degrees in history, international relations, military science and strategic studies. He is married with three children.
After the ceremony audience members will place roses each bearing the name of a Fallen Hero at the base of the panels making up the Memorial.
Visitors will be welcome to light remembrance candles and do name rubbings to honor those who have Fallen. Park staff and volunteer docents will be on hand to assist visitors.
