2022 Memorial Day Weekend Ceremony - Sunday May 29th 4pm
We are pleased to announce that The City of Irvine has approved the 2022 Memorial Day weekend ceremony at the Northwood Gratitude and Honor Memorial.
The guest speakers will be Jim and Carla Hogan. They lost their son, Marine Lance Corporal Donald J. Hogan, to an IED in Helmand Province, Afghanistan in 2009. In the instant before the explosion that would take his life he selflessly pushed the nearest Marine out of danger and then placed himself between the IED and the rest of his fellow Marines. He posthumously received the nation's second highest award for valor in combat. Since their son's death the Hogan's formed a charity that has donated over 60 tons of socks to American service members deployed to the Middle East.
Members of the audience will be invited to come forward and join in reading the names of the Fallen Heroes who died between March, 2019 and December, 2021. After the ceremony audience members will place roses each bearing the name of a Fallen Hero at the base of the panels making up the Memorial.
Visitors will be welcome to light remembrance candles and do name rubbings to honor those who have Fallen. Park staff and volunteer docents will be on hand to assist visitors.
Please join us in expressing appreciation for those who sacrificed their all for this nation and remembering them by name.
May God Bless our Fallen Heroes and the Gold Star Families they left behind
